Lotus is known for its simplicity and lightness. The British automaker was founded in 1952 by engineers Colin Dare and Colin Chapman, who coined the famous philosophy: "Simplify, then add lightness." It is currently based at the former site of RAF Hethel, a World War II airfield in Norfolk. Its lineup consists of the Elise, Exige and Evora, with up to 14 variants altogether. Believe it or not, Lotus is owned by DRB-Hicom through its subsidiary Proton, who took over the business in 1996.
