Jaguar was founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company in 1922 in Blackpool, England. The company began as a sidecar manufacturer for motorcycles before it forayed into the production of passenger cars. The company name was changed to Jaguar after World War II to avoid the negative connotations of the SS initials. In 1954, Jaguar became one of the earliest British car makers to export their vehicles to the North American market. As a holder of the Royal Warrant of Appointment, Jaguar also supplies its vehicles to the British Prime Minister as well as to the Royal Family. It was owned by the Ford Motor Company in 1989 before the acquisition by Tata Motors took place in 2008, forming the Jaguar Land Rover PLC (JLR) we know today. The company offers a lineup of exquisite, performance-oriented vehicles lead by the new F-Type roadster and XE sedan.
